Pros: * Temps stay below 60C with hotspots below 70C * Overclocks to just over 3 GHz * Looks better in person than in pictures
Cons: * Coil whine, coil whine, coil whine. It is very loud. * It's a giant cooler that will barely fit any cases. Even in my open-air Thermaltake Core P3, the vertical mounting of the GPU is 1.5 inches away from the glass. * Could only get a stable overclock of +4% fps at 3000 to 3045 MHz
Overall Review: Overall it works very well since it is the 4080 after all. I use it with a 5800X3D and QHD 240hz monitor. It is far over priced, though, has high coil whine, and doesn't have significant overclocking headroom of 7-10%. Just go for the FE or cheaper variants than the strix.
Dear Valued Customer, We sincerely apologize for the coil whine issue you have been experiencing with your graphics card. When the electrical current is increased to a certain point, the magnetic field around the coil can cause it to vibrate, which produces the whiny sound. After a short amount of time the noise should go away as the components regulates. However, if it is that the sound is too much for you, then we would recommend that you have this device sent in for servicing. We do stand behind our product and we continuously strive to improve our products and processes in order to achieve customer service excellence. For more information send us an email at [email protected] and provide the case number "N2212007561-0001" for reference. We’ll do our best to provide a quick resolution to your case. Your feedback is important as it helps with improvements to ASUS Support channels. Thank you for choosing ASUS. Best Regards, Leonardo ASUS Customer Loyalty US Support
Pros: -Able to run most games at 4k -Good RGB -Can run every game I throw at it in 1440p and a more than adequate frame rate
Cons: -Legitimately massive card, like most 75%-100% bigger than my 3070; I cant have my glass front plate on with out a PCIe adapter. -If vertically mounting, you will see the blue and red design which may not match with your build
Overall Review: If you can get the card at msrp it is definitely a step up from the 30 series cards. Would recommend
Overall Review: I recently upgraded from an MSI Gaming Trio 3080 12gb to the Asus Rog Strix 4080. It's early on but the 4080 is a noticeable upgrade overall. I've seen much improved rendering times in Davinci and the gaming performance is excellent. The installation was seamless and (as expected) has performed without issues over many hours of continuous use. The build quality has a solid high end feel with metal throughout. Fine 3d machined details and dark metallic gray finish sets this card apart from other versions. A couple splashes of color look nice against the monochrome finish on the fan side. However, they are barely visible when the card is conventionally installed if it's not your thing. The RGB lighting adds to the 4080's presence in the case without being overbearing. The unique ring of lighting at the end of the card and the overall esthetics remind me of something from Tron. That's a good thing. This is a massive and impressive looking beast in person. Too large for my compact NZXT h510 Elite. I had to upgrade to a Corsair D5000 Airflow case, which allows it to fit comfortably. I recommend getting an ATX 3.0 PSU for this card if you want to reduce your cable count. You can use the included three headed extension but the ATX 3.0 allows you to use a cable with a single connection on each side. One end goes to the new 12VHPWR connector on the PSU side instead of three pcie cords. Long story short, I highly recommend the ROG Strix 4080 of you desire the next level of performance. As a gaming and video editing guy, I couldn't be more pleased. It not only has amazing performance but looks the part as well.
Pros: - Its really fast. - Its stable, no issues updating the drivers - Great for dark or black/white builds. Design looks cool. - Fans are quiet for the games I play - Comes with a little adjustable peg to help with GPU sag. Its also magnetic so it doesn't shift around.
Cons: - Great card, still overpriced. Just a less poor value than many other cards on the market at the time I purchased it. - Temporary coil whine. - Its heavy, be careful when installing. - DisplayPort and HDMI only. No DVI. - Power cable adapter (split to 3) comes in the box, MAKE SURE ITS PLUGGED IN FULLY AND SEATED ALL THE WAY. DON'T SET YOUR BEAUTIFUL PC ON FIRE.
Overall Review: So many reviews complained about the coil whine that I was pretty worried about it when I bought the card. In my experience, the coil whine was not a major issue. Yes, you'll hear it for a few days of steady use, but it goes away and it hasn't come back since. Just be patient and wait for the card to warm up and settle into your new rig. Other than that, this card is spectacular! Its so fast, plays all of my games at max FPS and max ultra settings. The price I got it at was less enough from the 4090 that justified it over spending FAR more for the 4090 which was not worth it for me. The card runs QUIETLY for my usage. That was another issue some other comments noted and I was worried. It probably depends on what games you play, but none of the games I play caused the card to be noticeably loud. Overall, I'm pretty happy even though I'm gonna have to work overtime for a while to be able to pay the credit card bill... I definitely don't regret skipping the 4090 on this one. At the time of purchase, this card is far better value than AMD's 7900XTX, I didn't believe it at first, but now I agree with some that say the 7900XTX is even worse value/price per performance than 4080 OC (market prices, not msrp) when including dlss 3.0 and ray tracing. I'm not a fan of nvidia at all, but I really expected amd to come out with a 4080 killer at a more consumer friendly price, but no. There were still plenty of 7900xtx models being sold at the almost same price as the 4080, and the 4080 is better imo. The gpu market keeps changing so everything i just said may not mean anything in the future, but my point is do plenty of research before buying. may the force be with you.
Pros: Probably the coolest temps in 4080s never went over 61 c in 3D mark stress tests Nice design. Good overclocking
Cons: Coil whine is horrible under any load. Massive but thats all 40 series gpus
Overall Review: The coil whine is horrible on this card. Considering its $50 cheaper then a 4090 FE. You think Asus would of put more SMDs on the board especially for this price profit margins have to be through the roof for Asus with this card. So I dont see why they couldnt add more to fix the horrible coil whine. I was able to get a 9% OC on my card guess thats just silicon lottery though. I personally like the cyberpunk design of the card its really nice and different from other AIB. The card is huge like all 40 series cards since every 4080 is sharing the 4090 cooler but this card runs super cool even in stress tests I would gladly take slightly higher temps for a smaller card. As this card looks massive even in my Corsair 5000x RGB. If you have a brand loyalty to ASUS seriously just get the TUF model or a 4090 as this model is $50 USD less then the 4090 MSRP. Would give 3 eggs but I got lucky in the silicon lottery. So thanks I guess Asus
Pros: More performances than my 3080 Runs at 45-50C while gaming at 1440p No Coil Whine while playing games
Cons: Armory Crate is still buggy to change colours my have to restart PC or application a few time to work. Nvidia cable is ugly
Overall Review: Solid card I heard so much about the coil whine, luckily I dont hear any. Even in the Hyte Y60 thermals are great idles at 30c and while gaming ramps up to 45-50c and stays there. No drop in clock speed or performance while gaming for hours. Card is heavy had to use the stand off to help with sag.
Pros: *Powerful graphics power. Totally huge improvement over my old 2080 super. *Great for 1440p gaming. I can run anything with ultra settings with high FPS. I dont have a 4k monitor so I cant attest to that but I see no reason it would not be able to handle 4k easily. *Cool temps and quiet fans. I can barely hear this thing running when at load and it stays nice and cool under 50-60c.
Cons: Price. Price is high but at least its available to get and in stock. Unlike the scalped 4090s. Size. The card is chonky. I had no issues fitting it inside my Lian-Li O11 dynamic evo case but I can see where other cases might have issues.
Overall Review: I love this card really. I have not had any issues with coil whine. I barely hear this thing going at all. I like the RGB lighting on the thing, just the right amount. I know people didnt like the red and blue coloring on the fan area but I dont see it at all and dont notice it when mounted in the standard way facing down. It isnt really that big of a deal. The card is pretty strong and sturdy, I dont see a problem with card sag. It does come with a stand thing to keep it up, but I dont think its necessary. If you do end up using it, those with case fans on the bottom might have issues with using it or less choice in spots to place it.
Overall Review: The Asus Company and their customer service (over seas) is aweful!!!! Tried ordering this from them 6 times and they cancelled all our orders. NewEgg was Amazing, ordered it and received in 2 days. Great customer contact and kept me aware of every step. The card itself was for our son, who is a gamer snd is very happy with it.
Overall Review: I have high expectations of Asus, and I had a ROG STRIX GPU prior to this card. While the RTX 4080 is a beast, and performance seems solid so far, I'm really disappointed to have noisy coil whine on a card that costs $350 over MSRP. EDIT: Coil whine seems to have gone away over time, so updating my review.
Pros: Excellent GPU. Best on the market
Cons: BIG! Make sure your case can handle this card. I can fit 2 of my 2080's inside this beast. Now doing a new build because of this monster. Helios case. lol
Overall Review: This card is incredible. The DLSS 3 is a game changer for many reason. Can't wait for their new Path Tracing in next series of cards...hopefully.
