Pros: Better than expected performance, good tuning software from AMD
Cons: Runs ridiculously hot out of the box, no technical info available from PowerColor.
Overall Review: I got this card because the 6650XT was strongly recommended at this price point, and the PowerColor model was small enough for the case I wanted to use. Performance has been better than expected. I don't play anything too demanding, but at 2K resolution I'm seeing mostly 60fps at mostly ultra settings. If I bump things down to medium, I can comfortably get 4K/60fps. That is, of course, with no ray tracing. My problems, such as they are, began when I noticed a strong smell of hot electronics. That's never a good sign! I fired up CPUID's HWMonitor, and saw that the card was sustaining hot spot temps of 105°C to 109°C under what I'd consider moderate load. It was so hot the case was getting uncomfortable to the touch. PowerColor provides ZERO information about this card. There are quick install instructions on their website, but that's all I could find. No specs, no manual, and no normal or maximum operating temps. I tried to contact their tech support a week ago and haven't heard back yet. I found unsourced info on Google saying Radeon 6000 series cards tended to run hot and could go up to 110°C, but even if that's true, I'm very skeptical that means the card is supposed to just hang out and run at 109°. Even if it is, that kind of heat will pretty quickly destroy my mobo and everything else. Luckily AMD's own Adrenalin software had everything I needed to get the heat under control. It has an automatic undervolt function that suggested a 10% reduction, and that combined with a far more aggressive fan curve and about 3% off the top GPU frequency has me seeing hot spot temps that rarely go over 80°C and top out around 90°, with really no noticeable loss of performance. I can still get it pretty hot running Furmark, but normal use isn't that tough. The fans don't bother me at 100%, but they are audible. So I'm going to say 5 eggs to AMD, 2 eggs to PowerColor. It shouldn't get that hot that easily. Regardless of the airflow and cooling situation, it should throttle long before it destroys itself and my PC. And it should come with, like, literally any information at all.
